AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman has been shot and wounded on her left buttock in Makuyu area of Kaoma District.Kaoma District Commissioner (DC), Kennedy Liale Mubanga, confirmed the incident which happened on Monday.Police have identified the victim as Changano Sakai of Nduli village in chief Mutondo’s chiefdom.Mr Mubanga said on November 30 around 11:30 hours, Ms Sakai and her two grandchildren were on their way back home from the field when a gunman confronted them.The unknown gunman shot at her on the left buttock where she sustained a deep wound.He said police rushed to the scene after a tip off from members of the public and took the victim to Kaoma District Hospital for medical attention.He stated that an AK47 riffle iwassuspected to have been used in the shooting.“I can confirm that an 80-year-old was shot at 200 meters away from her home on her way from the field in the company of her two grandchildren and an AK 47 riffle is believed to have been used in the shooting,” Mr Mubanga explained.Kaoma District Health Director Dr Idi Mwiyi confirmed having received the victim and described the condition as stable and out of danger.Police have since launched a manhunt.Meanwhile, the DC appealed to Ministry of Home Affairs to introduce an incentive for members of the public to help recover unlicensed firearms.
Mr Mubanga expressed concern at the high rate of shootings experienced in the district, adding that it would be helpful if measures were put in place to curtail the vice.
