ZAMBIA National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) plc has closed its Itezhi Tezhi branch after some employees were exposed to a client who tested positive to COVID-19.
According to a Press Release placed on the bank’s notice board, the closure of the branch is as a result of a client who tested positive to COVID -19 who came into contact with some members of staff at the bank.
“Zambia National Commercial Bank plc wishes to advise its customers and the public on the closure of our Itezhi Tezhi Branch with immediate effect until further notice” states the release in part.
The bank has since alerted the Ministry of Health while ZANACO members of staff have been placed in quarantine.
“This incidence presents a high risk exposure to our customers and our employees, especially those at Itezhi Tezhi Branch. In view of the above, the bank has taken precautionary measures to temporary suspend operations at the branch” read the release in part.
The statement further indicates that bank is committed to fight COVID-19 Pandemic and has continued to enforce and to have all the staff adhere to guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile the Itezhi Tezhi District COVID-19 Taskforce has heightened control measures and deployed both council and state police to ensure guidelines are adhered to.
Itezhi Tezhi District Health Director Sylvester Kasonde said during a meeting that no fish mongers were being allowed to go to the harbor to buy fish without wearing masks.
Dr Kasonde said that the rapid response team is also inspecting all business and public places in the district to ensure compliance with guidelines on COVID-19.
He said that the taskforce will intensify monitoring for compliance in public places such a s shops, schools and check points.
Dr. Kasonde further said the council has also continued with community sensitization on COVID-19 key messages with emphasis on enhanced compliance and consequences for non-compliance.
