LUSAKA’S Munali Ward 33 Councilor, Sylvester Mulenga has advised residents of Munali constituency against dumping garbage in the drainage system.
In an interview, Mr Mulemga appealed to Munali residents to stop dumping refuse in drains, to curb flooding.
He said some of the challenges facing the environment were self-made and would take the joint effort of the entire community and its stakeholders to curb the challenges.
“It is disappointing that people are already dumping garbage in the new drainages which are yet to be completed.
“My advice to the residents of Munali Ward 33, in particular, and Munali constituency in general is that let us stop dumping refuse in drains, to curb flooding. What we should not forget is that the drainages are being built as a way of creating a conducive environment for us,” Mr Mulenga said.
Mr Mulenga advised the public to also play their part by not throwing any waste into the drains.
He said the residents should diligently dispose of garbage at designated areas which would make a huge difference in preventing clogged drains and flash floods to make the city a better place for everyone.
The civic leader pointed out that this rain season recorded reduced incidences of flooding owing to the drainages that have been constructed on most roads.
