COURT has ordered ten refugees who had escaped from Mayukwayukwa refugee camp in Kaoma district to go back with immediate effect.
Appearing at the Kafue magistrate court before magistrate Moffat Phiri were ten refugees who escaped from the camp and two said they had permits hence put on bail.
Four out of ten are women and said they all came from the republic of Congo as a result of civil wars. They said they escaped from the camp because of hunger and some other necessities.
All the ten refugees are currently living in Linda compound of Chilanga district.
Facts of the matter before court, are that on June 29, 2020 police in Chilanga district took an investigation and came across refugees who had escaped from the Mayukwayukwa refugee camp without any permission or relevant documents or a pass indicating their permit outside the camp.
The police discovered that the said refugees escaped from the camp and never returned back.
After questioning them they accepted the charge and were apprehended and put in police custody.
They have been living in Chilanga district for about two years and some can fluently speak Nyanja and have children. Most of them are doing businesses and are settled.
Court ordered them to go back to the camp immediately as they do not have permission to stay outside the camp.
