THREE people have died in Mkushi while several others sustained injuries when the bus they were traveling on over turned. Central province police commissioner, Chola Katanga confirmed the accident.
Mr. Katanga said the accident occurred on Tuesday around 22:00 hours at Chalata area on the Great North Road.
Mr. Katanga said involved was a Marcopolo bus for Harvey’s modern transport registration number ABD 6273 which was coming from Nakonde to Lusaka being driven by Thomas Zulu, 33, of 13 Miles in Lusaka and was carrying 56 passengers on board.
Mr. Katanga said the bus overloaded after having a tire burst due to over speeding.
“The accident happened when the driver lost control of the said motor vehicle due to excessive speed and overturn on the middle of the road causing fatal body injuries to three of his passengers.
“Three three died on the spot while several others who suffered injuries are admitted to Mkushi district hospital,” Mr. Katanga said.
Mr. Katanga added that the driver of the bus who escaped death was being detained at Mkushi police station for further investigations.
Adding that the three bodies were laying in Mkushi District hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
